We all know the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I prefer “When the going gets tough, the tough keep going!” Here’s why. As I’m sure you’ve all experienced, nothing’s ever as easy as we think it’s going to be…or that it seems it might be when we undertake it. Even if something seems quite straightforward, once we start working on it, it’s often not. And when the inevitable ‘bumps in the road’ arise, if we don’t have both discipline and stamina, it’s easy to give up and stop. As I explain to people I’m coaching, it’s often going to feel like you’re pushing a giant boulder up a hill. You can’t stop moving forward or the boulder will roll back and crush you. And you can’t see how close to the top of the hill you are because the boulder is blocking your view. You simply have to keep moving forward, and eventually the boulder will roll over the top and down the other side! The key? Practicing discipline, on a daily basis, so you build up the stamina to keep going. Because…when the going gets tough, the tough keep going…
