One of my favorite sayings is “Experience is what you get when you don’t get what you’re after!” And the reason it’s one of my favorites, is that is reminds us that not having things turn out as we planned – or assumed they would – isn’t ‘bad’ or a ‘mistake’. It’s actually unbelievably valuable. Valuable because the only way we can gain a deep understanding of anything is to experience it for ourselves…actually try it out and see what happens! Experiencing something for ourselves allows us to learn more about how we ‘assume’ our complex and complicated world works. And, that ‘assumptions’ are simply that – ‘assumptions’. They’re not mistakes. Once we dispel them, we can take the ‘experience’ and learning we gain and move on to trying the next thing.
