When my children were growing up, there was a lot of discussion about ‘quality’ time, meaning it didn’t matter how much time you spent with someone, but what you did with that time. Although that’s important, I’m a believer in what I call QUANTITY time. QUANTITY time is an important concept in coaching because learning how to work in new ways involves a lot of time and effort – both on the part of the learner – and the coach. The learner needs to spend time practicing, and the coach needs to spend time making sure the learner practices correctly and supporting them while they become comfortable and confident. So, if you’re a coach, make sure you’re spending QUANTITY, as well as quality time with your learner.
