As human beings, we somehow believe that ‘batching’ is the most efficient way to ‘get things done’. As lean practitioners, we know that isn’t so, so we help people work to eliminate batching in their processes. But do we practice what we preach? I often run into coaches who schedule weekly, hour long sessions to go over observations and reflections with their learners. In my view, that’s ‘batch coaching’. How about 15 minute daily sessions instead? That way you can help your learner make a hypothesis, try things out, and reflect on what happened each day. As coaches, we need to model what we’re teaching, so we should be striving for single piece coaching flow too!
