Theory, and gaining a different perspective on something is good, but learning hasn’t really occurred unless we’ve ‘tested’ our theory in reality, and ‘done’ something differently. Often, we think we can change someone’s mind by lecturing them, sending them to training, or telling them about our own experiences. Problem is, this doesn’t work. As human beings, we learn through doing and experiencing on our own. So, if you want the person you are coaching to change their mindset – learn – then the most important thing is to get them to do things – behave – differently. Once they do things differently, you won’t have to worry about changing their mindset at all, they’ll change it all on their own!
